Cassette tape recordings of conversations conducted between Queens County District Attorney’s Office criminal investigators and various “persons of interest,” as they related to the David Berkowitz “Son of Sam” case. CLICK tape cassette image to left to view and listen to all recordings.
In 1979, Queens County District Attorney John Santucci reopened the probe into the “Son of Sam.” Although Santucci admitted being convinced by the evidence of a conspiracy, he never had enough to take to court and put one of the NYPD’S most famous cases on trial. He felt obliged for the public’s interest to keep the case open.
The probe focused on alleged co-conspirators in the “Son of Sam” murders, primarily John and Michael Carr, the biological sons of David Berkowitz’ proclaimed nemesis, Sam Carr – these are the real “Sons of Sam!” John was a former resident of Yonkers, NY who had relocated to Minot, North Dakota while enlisted with the U.S. Air Force. Michael was an illustrator and artist and lived in the family home in Yonkers, NY. Both brothers met untimely and tragic demises under very curious circumstances.
It should be noted that the NYPD refused to grant DA Santucci’s office access to ANY of the investigation evidence, reports, or intelligence, that the NYPD had previously gathered during its criminal investigation from July 1976 to August 1977.
